Deputy Commandant


Rear Admiral Puneet Chadha was commissioned into the Indian Navy on 01 Jul 1987.  An alumnus of the National Defence Academy, Khadakwasala, he specialised in Anti Submarine Warfare (ASW).
As a non-specialist, he participated in OP Pawan as Navigating Officer of IN LCU L-36 and was the Commissioning Navigating Officer of INS Agray.  Post specialisation, he served as ASWO onboard IN Ships Ranjit, Abhay and Ranvir and Deputy Director (ASW) in Indian Naval Tactical Evaluation Group (INTEG).
He participated in OP Vijay as the Executive Officer of missile vessel INS Nipat, during which time he was commended by the Chief of the Naval Staff.  He has commanded the missile vessel INS Vibhuti, submarine rescue ship INS Nireekshak, destroyer INS Ranjit and the aircraft carrier INS Viraat.
He has held important staff appointments that include Fleet Operations Officer of the Eastern Fleet, Director Perspective Planning at Army Headquarters, Director Net Assessment at Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff, and Director & Principal Director Staff Requirements at Naval Headquarters.  He has done instructional tenures as Directing Staff at Centre for Leadership & Behavioural Studies and Defence Service Staff College, Wellington. 
He is a graduate of the Malaysian Armed Forces Staff College, Kuala Lumpur, Naval War College, Karanja and the National Defence College, New Delhi.  He has post graduate diploma in Strategic & Defence Studies from University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur and MPhil from Madras University.  The Flag Officer is a recipient of the Vishist Seva Medal.  On promotion to the rank of Rear Admiral, the Flag Officer took over as the Deputy Commandant, Indian Naval Academy on 27 Mar 18.
The Flag Officer is married to Mrs. Vandana Chadha and they have one daughter and one son.
