Rear Admiral MD Suresh, NM assumed charge as the Deputy Commandant of Indian Naval Academy, Ezhimala, on 14 Jul 2014.An alumnus of India's premier 'National Defence Academy' at Khadakvasla, the 'Defence Service Staff College' at Wellington in the Nilgiris, the 'College of Naval Warfare' at Mumbai, Rear Admiral MD Suresh has over thirty years of rich and varied experience in the Indian Navy. He was a member of the 'Around the World Sailing Expedition' on sailing vessel 'Samudra' during 1988-89. He has held a mix of operational and staff appointments. He was selected to commission the Navy's first stealth frigate INS Talwar, as the Executive Officer, in St Petersburg, Russia. His surface commands includes the Veer class 'Missile boats' to the latest, first P-17 indigenous stealth frigate, INS Shivalik. His staff appointments include, Deputy Director of Naval Operations at Naval Headquarters, New Delhi, Defence Advisor to the embassies of India in Oman, UAE, Qatar, and Bahrain, and 'Principal Director' of the 'Directorate of Naval Operations' at Naval Headquarters, New Delhi. On promotion to the rank of Rear Admiral, he took over as the Flag Officer Doctrine and Concepts, on 04 Mar 2013. The Admiral is a voracious reader with deep interest in geopolitics, strategy and military technology. In recognition of his exceptional dedication to the service and the country, the Admiral was awarded the Nao Sena Medal in 2000.
