Recent Events


At an impressive Passing-out Parade (POP) held at the Indian Naval Academy (INA), Ezhimala here today, 330 cadets of the Indian Navy and the Indian Coast Guard and six cadets from friendly foreign countries passed through the portals of the INA, on successful completion of their training.  This POP marked commissioning of the cadets of the 89th Indian Naval Academy Course (B Tech) and (MSc) Courses into the Indian Navy here today morning.    


The morning of 25th November 2015 was a red-letter day for the cadets of 89th Indian Naval Academy Course (INAC) of the Indian Naval Academy (INA), Ezhimala.  On this day they were awarded BTech degrees by the Vice Chancellor, Indian Maritime University, Chennai, Shri Ashok Vardhan Shetty, at a somber Convocation Ceremony held at INA in the presence of the proud parents and guardians of the graduating cadets.

Indian Naval Academy Ball

The Indian Naval Academy, Ezhimala the primier institution that shapes future Naval leaders, held it's first ever 'Ball' on 14 November 2015. Rear Admiral MD Suresh,NM, the Deputy Commandant and Chief Instructor of the Academy, was the Chief Guest. He rolled the traditional silver ball which marked the commencement of a rather extravagant and gala night of an old military tradition of ball room dancing.

The event was attented by all the senior officers of the station along with their ladies and also the passing out course cadets with their lady guests.

Inter Squadron Sailing Championship

Inter-Squadron Sailing Championship AT-15 was conducted from 12-13 and 25-27 Oct 15. The aim of the event was to emphasise the importance of team work in nautical environment, to enhance initiative, imbue competitiveness and espirit-de-corps amongst cadets. To ensure maximum participation of cadets, the competition was divided into two fleets namely ‘Barracuda fleet’ and ‘Piranha fleet’. Each fleet had  three Enterprise and two Laser (Radial) class of boats from each squadron.

Inter Squadron Drill Competition

The Inter-Squadron Drill Competition was conducted on 22-23 Oct 15. The aim of the event was to inculcate discipline and sense of pride amongst the cadets and also as a practice for the forthcoming POP. The Drill Competition was conducted into two phases. In the first phase, the cadets were inspected for their turnout followed by drill movements during the second phase.

The Inter-Squadron Drill Competition was won by Braveheart Squadron where as Eagle, Cheetah Daredevil and Achiever squadrons attained second, third, fourth and fifth positions respectively.

Guest Lecture by Dr P Paleri (Ex DGCG)

Dr. P Paleri (Ex DGCG) visited INA, Ezhimala on 23 Sep 15 for delivering guest lecture on “Origin, Evolution and Need for International Maritime Law”. The speaker enlightened the audience comprising of officers and cadets by covering the rationale behind Lawlessness, Absence of Law and Law. The speaker brought out the importance of EFL (Enforcement Friendly Laws) in complex maritime environment prevalent today. Dr. Paleri also spoke on Killing of Indian fishers by Italian Marines, Exploration of oil in South China Sea and dispute of Maritime disputes.

Guest Lecture by Col (Retd) Ajai Shukla

A guest lecture on "India's Strategic Strengthening through 'Make' Model" was delivered by Col Ajai Shukla (Retd) on 14 Sep 15 at the auditoriums Orion and Ramanujan with an audio video link. The speaker enlightened the audience comprising officers and cadets by covering Defence procurement models under Off the shelf, Transfer of Technology and Research Design and Develop indigenously. The speaker brought out inherent advantages and disadvantages in terms of Strategic, Financial and Operational limitations of each model.

Outdoor camps -Varuna and Samudramanthan

An officer in the Indian Navy will at times find himself/herself in an environment that is both physically and mentally stressful. Even in this environment, he is to lead the men and take effective action. The concept of camps is to periodically subject cadets to such an environment. The camps at INA are an amalgamation of various seamanship evolutions meant to test the cadets' knowledge and resolve in stressful conditions and thus are a true and comprehensive reflection of the ‘applied’ Navy specific subjects.
