On 05 Jan 21, Darius Prabhu, son of Lieutenant Commander Binesh Prabhu, Principal Medical Officer, INS Zamorin, Ezhimala, and B Chithra, stunned spectators by swimming across Kavvayi backwaters. Darius Prabu is presently a Class 1 student of NCS Ezhimala. He was introduced to swimming as a LKG student at NCS Coimbatore at INS Agrani. He had won various accolades at Coimbatore district and Tamil Nadu state level events organised by various clubs, schools and colleges. Under the guidance of swimming coach Charlson Ezhimala (Kerala State awardee 2013 and 2014 for best Life Guard in the State and URF record holder 2014 for long distance swimming accomplishment) with a vision to promote swimming for a social cause with a message “Swim towards safety”, Darius attempted the feat of swimming across Perumba river and successfully crossed the river at a stretch of 4 times consecutively on 04 Jan 21. Following this, on 05 Jan 21, he swam unassisted across Kavvayi backwaters from one bank to the other measuring about one Kilometre distance in 20 minutes. He is all set to swim at sea in Payyambalam beach, Kannur in a few days.
